Dabo Swinney Under Fire Over Insensitive 'Suicide' Comments After Loss to Miami

Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney is under fire on social media after a joke he made following the team's 28-20 loss on the road in overtime to the Miami Hurricanes.

"Some coaches have employed sports psychiatrists, have you ever done that?" a reporter asked.

Swinney responded, saying, "Oh, we've got 'em, we got 'em. He's probably, he's probably on suicide watch right now. Yeah, yeah, we got 'em."

There were a wide array of responses on X to this.

"Dabo Swinney need some PR training" one user wrote.

Others were more forgiving while taking a shot at those upset by the joke.

"It's a joke. If it upsets you, you're soft." someone else wrote.

Finally, others called for him to be fired.

"i love this school but fire dabo" another user wrote.

The loss marked the Tigers third loss this season. The two others came against the Duke Blue Devils to open the season and the Florida State Seminoles.

Now 4-3, the Tigers had multiple turnovers, including an interception from quarterback Cade Klubnik. Running back Will Shipley mustered up just 44 yards on 15 carries.

The Tigers were up 17-7 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Hurricanes had an 11-yard touchdown catch from Colbie Young thrown by Emory Williams and a 38-yard field goal by Andres Borregales to tie it up.

In the first overtime, the teams exchanged field goals.

In the second overtime, the only scoring was a three-yard scamper from Ajay Allen.

Of course, everyone is talking about the play where Klubnik ran with the ball and was tossed out of bounds.

It was supposed to be a simple hand-off, not an RPO.

Now, the Tigers are 7-6 in their last 13 games. They remain two wins shy of being bowl-eligible. It'll be the first time since 2010 if they fail to win ten games.

The Tigers will face North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
