Four-star DB Jaylin Simpson names a new No. 1 team after unexpected visit

Simpson is rated as a four-star by 247 and Rivals.

Four-star defensive back Jaylin Simpson is one of the top recruits of the 2019 class, and it appears that Simpson has a new No. 1 team in his recruitment after unusual circumstances led to an unexpected visit.

In an interview with Chad Simmons of Rivals, the St. Simons Island, Ga. product told how he was forced to evacuate due to Hurricane Irma. The evacuation forced Simpson north to the Carolinas, and he eventually found his way to Clemson for their Sept. 9 game against Auburn.

The visit went well enough that Simpson outright named Clemson his new No. 1 team. From Rivals:

"It really was all about that visit," said Simpson. "I was there for the Auburn game and it really showed me a lot about the school. I had Florida State and Ohio State on top, but after that visit, Clemson moved up to No. 1 for me."

Simpson said in the same interview that he is already planning another visit to Clemson, and that he hopes he will have a decision by Spring of next year.

Simpson is rated as a four-star of the 2019 class by both 247Sports and Rivals.
