It’s not Alabama or Georgia, either.

After the second edition of the 2017 College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday, Kirk Herbstreit explained who he thinks is the best team in football, and it wasn’t either of the top two teams.

Instead, it is the defending national champs: the Clemson Tigers.

Herbstreit explained that when healthy, he believes that Clemson is the best team in the country. Herbstreit did express some concern for the health of quarterback Kelly Bryant and for Clemson’s defense in recent weeks, but he did say definitely that he thinks the Tigers may be the best team in college football.

Clemson has been ranked as the No. 4 team in both sets of College Football Playoff rankings so far this season. They trail Georgia, Alabama, and Notre Dame — in that order — in the rankings, are are currently just ahead of Oklahoma and TCU.
