Uh, what?

Sports Illustrated has been ranking college football's Top 100 players, and it is a well put together list that the guys over there clearly put a lot of effort into. However, that effort doesn't explain one omission from their Top 5 that will certainly leave a lot of football fans scratching their heads.
In 2015, Clemson's Deshaun Watson became the first player in college football history to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in a season. The effort helped Clemson nearly win the national title against Alabama, and Watson was one of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy.
The SI.com list, however, put him as No. 6 on their list of top college football players, in front of Iowa corner Desmond King and behind Michigan linebacker Jabrill Peppers.

One of the better parts about the list is that it really gives a lot of credit to defensive players, but placing Watson behind a still somewhat unproven Peppers is rather steep. Peppers certainly has the potential to be a Top 5 player — and perhaps even the very best — but giving him that over Watson right now is a very bold take.
LSU running back Leonard Fournette topped the list, where he was followed by Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett and Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey. Florida State running back Dalvin Cook and the aforementioned Peppers rounded out the list's first five.
