The Tigers huge, 50-35 win against North Carolina was really Deshaun Watson's coming out party. In his first start, the freshman QB threw for 435 yards and a school-record six touchdowns. Clemson faces the North Carolina State Wolfpack Saturday, and these are the keys to a Tigers win:
Establish the running game: Clemson needs a strong ground game to create a balanced offensive. While Clemson only averages 137 rushing yards per game, NC State gives up 160, so it's not a stretch to think Clemson can do better.
Stop NC State's running game: The Wolfpack has a committee of running backs (and quarterbacks) that average 231 rushing yards a game. Shadrach Thornton averages more than six yards a carry and is a bruising back who loves contact.
Contain Jacoby Brissett in the pocket: Brissett ran for 38 yards, and used his maneuverability to escape pressure, elude a sack or run for a first down last week against FSU. He likes to throw on the run and if you make him stand in a collapsing pocket, the pressure will affect his throws.
