Tra Wilkins, a four-star linebacker prospect, is starting to figure out what programs fit his wants. According to the 2019 recruit, the Clemson Tigers are starting to emerge as a team that checks all of his boxes.
It is worth noting that Wilkins' relationship with Clemson, relative to the recruiting process, is somewhat new.
"We probably started talking about two weeks ago, and then they invited me last week to visit for junior day," Wilkins said to Clemson247. "Now I feel like I know coach (Brent) Venables, coach (Tony) Elliott well, and I got to know coach (Dabo) Swinney, too."
A Georgia native, Wilkins has offers from the usual suspects. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Ohio State, and others, are all attempting to lure the young man to their campus.
According to Wilkins, though, the strong push by the Tigers has been something he's enjoyed.
"Coach Swinney told me he's gonna pop in at my school this week and ask the janitors about me," Wilkins laughed. "I like that about Clemson. They're different. They are picky about who they choose to offer. They don't just offer everybody even if they are good players. I also liked how much coach Swinney talked about academics."
When asked about releasing his top-six potential destinations later this week, he left the Clemson fan base a reason to be giddy in the bell.
"They're in my top three now," Wilkins said.
