This could have a major impact on the 2016 College Football Playoff, and the season hasn't even started yet.
News came out that Florida State quarterback Sean Maguire was held out of Saturday's practice, and that he had a boot on his foot. Later, Jimbo Fisher revealed that his senior quarterback would need foot surgery and that he would likely be out for at least four weeks.
That puts Maguire out for the season opener on Sept. 5 against Ole Miss at the minimum. If he is out for more time, that puts a Week 3 and 4 games at Louisville and at South Florida in jeopardy for Maguire.
Redshirt freshman Deondre Francois had been competing with Maguire for the starting job, and for now, it looks like that job will be his in the season opener. Francois was a highly regarded four-star recruit, but it now looks like he will immediately be throw into the fire with a Labor Day date against a highly-rated Rebels team.
In eight games last season, Maguire threw for 1,580 yards and 11 touchdowns.
