FSU defense off to historically bad start

This is less than ideal.

Florida State's offense has been maligned by some because of poor blocking from the offensive line and some from its tight ends and tailbacks. However, the offense's job becomes much harder when the defense doesn't get off the field before giving up points.

We all know by now that the 63-20 drubbing was one of the worst in FSU's history and that was the most points scored against the Noles in school history. Through three games the Noles have allowed 105 points —- and it could have been worse if they played an FBS in Week 2 of the season —- which is a 35-point average per game. To compare to last season, that many points weren't given up until the seventh game of the season against Georgia Tech.

In 1983, FSU also allowed a combined 105 points through three contests against East Carolina, at LSU, and at Tulane. That was the last time the Seminoles gave up that many points to start the firs three games. The last time a Jimbo Fisher-coached FSU team gave up that many points in a three-game stretch was in 2014 against Florida, Georgia Tech and Oregon to end the season.

If you include the Houston beat down in the Peach Bowl from 2015 then you have 143 points allowed in the last four games for the Seminoles. Not an ideal look for this team that had National Championship aspirations at the beginning of the season. In order to get there, the Noles will have to beat Clemson and hope the Tigers beat Louisville for a bizarre three-way tie scenario in the division to potentially go to the ACC Championship Game.

Something similar to his defensive situation happened in 1983 where the team gave up a ton of points and started 2-1. The defense clamped down and only allowed a 34-point score once more that season to finish 8-4. Can this team be better than that and finish with 10 wins or more to go deep in the postseason?
