Jimbo Fisher chokes up in FSU return due to fan reception

Jimbo Fisher has not been the head coach of the Florida State Seminoles since the 2017 season, but the fans still support him. They even brought him to tears on Saturday morning as he returned to campus.

Fisher joined the ACC Network desk on Saturday to help preview Saturday night's clash between rivals Florida State and Miami. The fans greeted him by chanting, "Jimbo, Jimbo, Jimbo." They applauded, cheered, and did the Seminoles' Tomahawk Chop.

"It brings tears to my eyes," an emotional Fisher told co-panelists Eric Mac Lain, Eddie Royal, and Taylor Tannebaum. "Remember, your family growing up here, and hearing that chant..." The championship-winning coach then had to stop talking as the fans continued chanting his name.

Fisher, who joined the ACC Network as an analyst this season, delivered a considerable amount of success during his time leading the Florida State Seminoles. This run started with his first season, 2010, which featured 10 wins and a Chick-fil-A Bowl victory over South Carolina.

Fisher's run at FSU lasted eight seasons. He guided the team to seven winning seasons, seven Bowl Game appearances, and eight Bowl Game wins. Most importantly, the 2013 team won the National Championship after defeating Auburn.

This particular game featured quarterback Jameis Winston throwing for two touchdowns, including the game-winner with 13 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Fisher's time at Florida State ended after a 5-6 season in 2017. He then headed to Texas A&M, where he remained for six seasons. He compiled a win-loss record of 45-25. This includes Bowl Game wins over Oklahoma State, North Carolina State, and North Carolina.

The veteran coach stepped away from the sidelines after the 2023 season. Technically, Texas A&M fired him and bought out his contract. Fisher no longer coached at the university, but Texas A&M still owed him $76 million through the 2031 season.

This parting of ways with Texas A&M took the headset away from Fisher, but it opened up some opportunities to travel the country in a different role. It also led to this emotional moment on the Florida State campus.
