The suspension is likely stemming from five felonies that Phillips is reportedly facing as described by Jim Henry from the Tallahassee Democrat.
FSU receiver Davante Phillips facing five felony charges, cashing or depositing items with intent to defraud, grand theft. Story forthcoming

The junior from Miami was expected to be a serious contributor in the receiving corps after appearing in 19 games previously and only recording five catches. It seems that dream may not come to fruition if these felony charges become more than that.
Phillips had been participating in preseason practices for FSU before the suspension.
