SEC program loses its No. 1 recruit to Florida State

That is a huge swing in recruiting momentum.

Xavier Peters, an outside linebacker prospect who was Kentucky's No. 1 recruit in the 2018 class has changed his mind and is headed to Florida State.

A four-star recruit, Peters was one of Kentucky's 20 signees. After a tweet from the player, however, that appears no more.

This is unfortunate for the Wildcats, as they were doing legit damage on the recruiting trail. Not yet updated to reflect losing out on Peters, Kentucky is ranked to have the No. 9 recruiting class in the SEC and the No. 30 class nationally, per 247Sports.

While being the ninth-ranked SEC program might not seem great, being the 30th in the country is nearly ideal for a historically ho-hum Kentucky football program.

According to the 247Sports composite, Peters is the No. 12 outside linebacker in the 2018 recruiting class, and the No. 6 overall recruit from the state of Ohio. Basically, he is a pretty big deal.

Florida State, a program transitioning from the Jimbo Fisher era to a new one under Willie Taggart, doing well on the recruiting trail is incredibly important. With a new head coach manning the helm, having little to no drop off in the hearts and minds of high school players should help the transition go smoothly.
