There was some doubt as to whether Florida State's returning leading tackler in Matthew Thomas would be able to play against Alabama to open the season. That can be put to rest now as he will reportedly be available to play for the Seminoles in the biggest opening game in college football history.

Thomas was not present for the last three weeks of summer camp due to what was at first described as an "illness" as Tomahawk Nation reported, but was later believed to be academic issues. Citing three different sources, 247Sports.com reported Wednesday that those issues have been resolved and the linebacker has rejoined the team. TomahawkNation.com, citing two sources, also wrote "that Thomas is 'good to go' and will return to the team."
Head coach Jimbo Fisher said that the fifth-year senior would play once his eligibility was clarified. There has been no official word on his eligibility, but those reports are solid and can be trusted. Last season, Thomas started 12 games for the team. He led the Seminoles in tackles with 77, while his 11 tackles for loss were good for third on the team. He also recorded a sack and a forced fumble last season.
