FSU’s odds-on favorite discusses Seminoles head coaching rumors

Good or bad news for Florida State?

Jimbo Fisher's exit (and subsequent contract at Texas A&M) has the college football world buzzing but life must go on at Florida State. With that in mind, the 'Noles must make an impact-level coaching hire in the near future and FSU's search has been tied to Oregon head coach Willie Taggart since before Fisher made the decision to bolt for College Station. On Saturday, Taggart was predictably prompted about the rumors in speaking with the Oregon media and Tony Piraro of SB Nation's Addicted to Quack brings word of what he said.

In addition to flatly stating he is "the head football coach at the University of Oregon" on Friday, Taggart went on to blame the buzz on social media.

"There is nothing more to report. I'm sorry I can't give you guys what you want. Social media sparked it. Social media is unbelievable."

Of course, Taggart stating his allegiance to Oregon now would not necessarily stop him from taking the FSU job when and if it is offered but this is the safe approach for now. The Ducks would almost certainly put up a considerable fight to keep him and, if both sides are staring each other down, the fireworks could be real in the very near future.
