Four-star CB spurns Clemson for one of their biggest rivals

A much needed commitment for this team.

It looks like four-star cornerback Gentry Bonds (6-foot-1, 193 pounds, Murfreesboro, TN) wants to play in the ACC, but just not at Clemson. On Thursday, the recruit picked Georgia Tech over Clemson, Kentucky, Missouri, and Nebraska.

"I had a really long talk with my family last night and we decided that if Georgia Tech felt like home then why wait," Bonds said to Rivals. "I didn't see any point in waiting and they didn't either so I went ahead and made the decision."

Bonds is a much needed recruit for Georgia Tech, which had fallen all the way down to No. 71 in the recruiting rankings. Bonds moved them up four spots over at 247Sports, but the Yellow Jackets still rank last in the ACC in 2017 recruiting. Georgia Tech now has 11 commitments for the class, and Bonds is obviously one of their highest-rated recruits for the year.

Georgia Tech will hope to improve a lot over the 2015 season, as their 3-9 record was their worst in over 20 years. They missed a bowl game for the first time since 1996, and head coach Paul Johnson will have a lot of explaining to do if he fails to get wins and good recruits for a second consecutive year.
