Former Big Ten starter announces grad transfer destination for 2018 season

He will be eligible immediately for next season.

Marcus Applefield, a starting offensive lineman for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights last season, has transferred to the Virginia Cavaliers. He will be immediately eligible to play.

His announcement got lost in the midst of a busy National Signing Day on Wednesday, but he let the world know his intentions on the mean streets of Twitter.

After having an amazing four years at Rutgers university, meeting brothers for life , getting my degree and playing Big ten ball. I have decided to play my last year at the University of Virginia in the ACC and work on a masters.

How'd he get that uniform so quick?

Anyway, Applefield started 10 of 12 games at right guard for the Scarlet Knights this past season. Furthermore, he played in 27 games the past three seasons after taking a redshirt as a true freshman in 2014.

A three-star recruit who exceeded all expectations coming out of high school, Applefield was an Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Give his experience and ability, there's a better than solid chance he starts for the Cavaliers next season. As we have learned over the history of the sport, having quality offensive lineman can result in the elevation of other talent.

Huge get for the Cavs.
