ACC preseason poll predicts a first-time matchup in the ACC Championship Game

Could it finally happen?

It's been 13 years since the ACC instituted their version of the conference championship game, and it looks like the conference could finally be getting their dream match.

The ACC preseason poll was released from their media day on Monday, and the vote was overwhelming in favor of Florida State and Miami winning the Atlantic and Coastal divisions. While the matchup between the two was seen as a dream match for the ACC when they went to this format, the two have yet to meet in the championship game. Florida State has held up their end on several occasions, but Miami has yet to win the Coastal division.

The two never meeting in game has been a bit of a debacle for the conference, as the ACC originally put their championship in Florida in anticipation of Florida State and Miami eventually meeting there.

Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech have won the Coastal division 10 of the 12 seasons so far, and the media vote lists those two as the top contenders to Miami in that division this year. On the other side, Florida State is expected to be a Top 5 overall team as they return 16 starters from their 10-win 2016 squad.
