The announcement was made after Miami had already taken a 28-10 lead over Virginia Tech. Only a few minutes remained in the fourth quarter when it was made official.
The game will have major College Football Playoff implications, as both Miami and Notre Dame are in prime position to make it into the final four. The game will also have a lot to live up to, as College GameDay's Week 10 game — Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State — turned into a 62-52 thriller that wasn't decided until very late in the fourth quarter.
