The Hokies were demolished by Georgia Tech in Lane Stadium, dropping 30-20 to the Yellow Jackets. Virginia Tech was completely controlled by an awful Georgia Tech defense that was giving up over six yards per play coming into this game. Instead, Georgia Tech was able to get four turnovers — three by nickelback Lawrence Austin — to keep the Hokies offense under wraps.
Virginia Tech actually out-gained the Yellow Jackets, but the slow, rumbling Georgia Tech offense gave them a wide-spread in time-of-possession. Ball control allowed Georgia Tech to take a 20-0 lead into halftime, and there simply wasn't enough time for the Hokies and they scored two touchdowns in what amounted to nothing more than garbage time late in the fourth quarter.
Virginia Tech drops to 7-3 on the season with the loss, while Georgia Tech moves to 6-4 to become bowl eligible.
