Dan Mullen Responds to Syracuse Coaching Rumors

Now that the college football regular season is over, fans and analysts around the country will start projecting which candidates could fill which vacancies, but one thing is for sure — don't bet on Dan Mullen landing with the Syracuse Orange.

Mullen, the head coach of the Florida Gators from 2018-2021, has been out of football since that time. He has worked for ESPN and ABC, and even volunteered as a "contributing resource" for Lake Oconee Academy.

Now, he's taken to X to clear up some rumors and speculation about him and the Syracuse Orange head coach vacancy, which occurred after Dino Babers was fired earlier this month. He was with the program for eight years.

The thread began with Mullen commenting on the prospect of Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day being fired after losing three straight games to Michigan.

"The Ryan Day must go argument is ridiculous," Mullen said. "Jim Harbaugh was 0-5 vs Ohio State at one point. ADs jump the gun so fast today."

To this, a fan responded with a GIF of Syracuse football dancing.

Mullen then replied with the post you can see above.

"Love the cuse. But will not be the next head coach," Mullen stated.

The response to that post was mixed on X.

"No disrespect to Cuse but you could get a way better job than that," one user wrote.

"How anyone thought he'd consider it is ridiculous," one user replied. "There's at least 10 better opportunities out there right now. This is a rebuild from scratch, 8 years of destruction just happened. Marrone is probably the best bet. He pulled us out of the Robinson debacle, he can do it again."

Others weren't as complimentary of Mullen's ability, though.

"They took one look at your dedication to recruiting and were like 'nah we're good,'" one user wrote.

Now, the Orange continue to look for a new head football coach with Mullen out of the running.
