The incident occurred during the pre-game festivities. Two skydivers descended from the sky as the fans watched from the grandstands. One skydiver disappeared from view behind the scoreboard. The other, however, slammed into the top between the "C" and the "H" in the Virginia Tech lettering.

This individual's parachute hung on the top of the scoreboard and left them hanging in front of the video screen. This ultimately served as their saving grace.

Andy Bitter, senior staff writer for Tech Sideline, revealed with a photo on X that an asphalt road ran between the scoreboard and the stands. The distance between the dangling individual and the ground appeared to span dozens of feet.

If the skydiver had fallen to the ground, they would have been severely injured or possibly killed.

The unnamed individual avoided tragedy. The Blacksburg Fire Department came to the rescue and successfully removed them from the scoreboard. This process reportedly took an hour as the Blacksburg Fire Department brought in a crane for the rescue efforts.

"We are grateful to report that the skydiver was safely secured and is currently stable. Our primary focus remains on their well-being," Virginia Tech Athletics said in a statement.

"We extend our sincere appreciation to the first responders, event staff, and medical personnel for their swift, coordinated and professional response."

The start time moved to 4 p.m. ET as new head coach James Franklin kicked off his first season with the team.

The Maroon Team kicked off the scoring with a touchdown during the first quarter of the spring game. This side then added five points during the second quarter.

The White Team, however, took control as the game progressed. This group scored touchdowns in the second, third, and fourth quarters to take a 21-12 lead.
