After season-long hiatus, familiar face will return to sidelines for ESPN's college football coverage

ESPN has been in the habit of making some pretty big announcements in recent weeks thanks to the loss of some personnel and moving of others around for football coverage. It seems they've made another big one that few people saw coming.

After announcing nine months ago that she would hang up her "sideline flats", Sam Ponder will join the ABC Saturday Night Football telecast as a reporter, ESPN announced on Wednesday. Ponder will also remain in her role on College GameDay and College Football Live, according to the network.

She originally took a hiatus from Thursday Night Football to spend more time with her family. In other college football news, Steve Levy is also returning to college football to call games with Brian Griese Saturday afternoon.
