The Kansas Jayhawks have achieved virtually unprecedented recruiting momentum for the 2018 class. David Beaty's program currently ranks within the top ten (!) in the country for next year's group and that isn't something that is ever associated with Kansas football.
However, Beaty already lost one high-profile pledge when four-star WR Jamarr Chase decommitted last week. Now, a second member of the Jayhawks' famed class is headed elsewhere, with talented defensive tackle Nelson Jenkins flipping to Ed Orgeron and LSU.
It should come as no surprise that the 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive lineman from Plaquemine (La.) would jump on an offer from LSU and, when it came, Jenkins did just that. On the LSU side, this is a nice pick-up from a local product that won't move the needle, but Jenkins does have real upside that Orgeron and his staff can tap into down the line.
For Kansas, though, this could be the start of an alarming trend. The Jayhawks still have six commitments for the 2018 class at this (very) early date but, with every passing day, it becomes more likely that those prospects who rise in the national consciousness could get picked off by more high-profile programs.
David Beaty has his hands full in Lawrence and everyone knows it. Hopefully, he'll be able to hold on to most of his early success on the recruiting trail.
