Speedway Motorsports President and CEO Marcus Smith and Bristol Motor Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Jerry Caldwell confirmed to the newspaper that plans for a second college football game at Bristol Motor Speedway are in the works, although the teams and date have not been set.
"We're working on it," Smith said Monday. "Jerry Caldwell is working hard on it. I would say that another game will be coming at some point and you need to call the ticket office and get on the list.
"We will have another football game, absolutely. Right now, there aren't any details to be released, but we are continuing to have more good conversations and we are going to play football."
Caldwell didn't rule out eventually hosting a potential NFL game, but said that the focus would remain on college football.
Tennessee defeated Virginia Tech, 45-24, in the first Battle at Bristol matchup, which took place on Sept. 10, 2016 in front of a record attendance of 156,900.
