Baylor continues to clean house, dismisses player accused of assaulting a woman multiple times

Another one bites the dust.

Baylor continues to clean house. After head coach Art Briles, the athletic director and president all stepped down or were fired, the Bears dismissed running back Devin Chafin following a string of domestic abuse allegations from 2014 and an arrest this spring.

Chafin was previously suspended following a marijuana arrest, yet not after the alleged assault.

Chain was named in an  Outside The Lines report that detailed the handling of crimes committed by Baylor football players.

Here's a blurb from OTL, per The Big Lead:

In the April 2014 case, a woman told Waco police that Bears running back Devin Chafin grabbed her arm and slammed it against a car, in front of teammates and another witness. She provided photos of bruises on her arm to police. She told police that, weeks earlier, Chafin had grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against a wall, then threw her to the floor and kicked her, according to a police report.

In the police report, the officer wrote that the woman was uncertain about pressing charges, and no legal action was taken. Chafin played in nine of 13 games the following season, including the season opener.

It seems as though life after Art Briles at Baylor will be running much differently.

Briles was fired after reports circulated that football coaches and staff took steps to disclose sexual assault and/or dating violence allegations, thus not allowing the University to take the proper actions.
