Bethune-Cookman football player tragically shot and killed at a party

The alleged suspect has since turned himself into police.

Bethune-Cookman linebacker Don'Kevious Johnson was shot and killed at a party near campus early Saturday morning. The shooting, which injured two other students, happened just after 1 a.m. Saturday morning at the Indigo Lakes Golf Club in Daytona Beach, Fla. Per CBS Local 6 in Orlando, a suspect has been found, and his name is Lamont Postell, Jr. Postell, who reportedly goes by the nickname "Cornbread," allegedly opened fire after a fight broke out during the party at the gold club.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said that there were more than 200 students at the party on Friday evening.

"It's a typical Friday night, typical of what college kids do. I mean, they look to rent a place to have a party and nobody expects when you're in college, you're going to end up like this," Chitwood said.

Johnson, the BC linebacker played in two games in his first season with the program as a redshirt freshman in 2014, and played as a reserve offensive lineman. He also picked up playing time against FIU and Grambling State to begin the season.

Two other students, Justine Cunninghman and Tre Jamal Williams, 21, were also shot, but they are expected to be okay. The two were taken to Halifax Medical Center after the incident. Police said Postell's friend called Daytona Beach police, saying the suspect wanted to turn himself in. Shortly after they met detectives at a parking lot, the suspect was picked up and was taken to police headquarters.

Postel had his first appearance before a judge on Sunday morning and his bond was denied.
