Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn caused quite the controversy on Wednesday night. The coach, when asked about Auburn hypothetically moving to the SEC East, came out in-favor of the potential change.
If the SEC were to align internally, this move would probably make the most sense. Missouri playing in the SEC East is a bit of a farce, and Auburn would pick up a rivalry with Florida in a series that has already featured 83 games. Naturally, the biggest change would be Auburn and Alabama being in different division, meaning the two could potentially meet in a hypothetical SEC championship game after their annual Iron Bowl matchup.

Of course, the SEC — in the vain of Lee Corso — said "not so fast, my friend!" According to AL.com, the SEC has not discussed potential realignment, and the league's schedule is essentially locked in until 2025.
That idea may be completely off of the table, but it will be interesting to see what happens should the SEC ever decide to expand to 16 teams. Of course, that would cause chaos among all of college football, but it would also cause chaos inside the SEC, as schedules would become even more limited. Which rivalries would get cut? Which ones would get saved?
Thankfully, we don't have to worry about that right now, and if we are lucky we won't have to worry about it for a long time.
