A few weeks ago, the NCAA ruled that conferences with less than 12 members would be able to have championships games in football. This was seen as a major win for the Big 12, who faced a major disadvantage without a title game when compared to the other Power 5 conferences.

However, the Big 12 championship game might not be coming soon.
According to the Associated Press, the athletic directors of all Big 12 schools met on Thursday to discuss the title game and the best path going forward for the conference to position itself as best as it can for the College Football Playoff.
However, the report also mentioned that a title game is unlikely for 2016, as the conference has several obstacles before they can actually stage such a game. Those include, but are not limited to, finding a location for the game, and discovering the best method for picking participants in a league that is already on a round-robin schedule.
That last one is particularly concerning, as it leaves a scenario where the teams that met in the title game are guaranteed to have already played against each other at least once before the championship. Such a scenario would be very unsavory for the conference, as it makes an additional obstacle to getting a team into the College Football Playoff.
