College football teams pay tribute to 9/11

In honor of the 13th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001 and Military Appreciation Day college football teams around the country will be paying tribute to those that died in the attacks with special patriotic uniforms.

Boston College will honor former BC lacrosse player Welles Crowther, who lost his life helping get others out of the South Tower, with these red bandana uniforms.

Virginia Tech will wear American flag adorned helmets for their game Saturday against East Carolina.

Even Division II school Nebraska-Kearney will wear special helmets.

BYU and Houston honored America with special helmets for their game on Thursday.

Other teams, universities and players took time to honor those that died in the attacks on September 11th.

Current LSU player and marine Luke Boyd posted this picture of him at Ground Zero and in his Marine uniform with Les Miles.

Clemson University paid tribute on Thursday morning with a "9-11" display in American flags on the lawn.

Former South Carolina QB Erik Kimrey posted this picture of the Gamecocks' first game after 9/11/2001, and the video below of the open to the broadcast of that game, which was the first D-1 game after 9/11.

BYU and Houston honored America with special helmets for their game on Thursday.

Texas A&M posted a collage of pictures from the first Texas A&M game after 9/11.

Current and former Alabama Crimson Tide members also paid tribute.

Florida State also has a flag display where students can dedicate a flag in remembrance.

Tennessee's football page posted this picture to Twitter of the Vols band paying tribute.

Auburn posted this message on their athletics Twitter account.

The Georgia Football account and many players paid tribute on Twitter.

Florida head coach Will Muschamp simply changed his Twitter avatar to the Gator logo with the American flag.
