ESPN analyst predicts this year will be the closest Heisman race with this guy coming out on top

Will it be as close as he says?

Mark Schlabach has been giving some preseason predictions and the least bold of them might be that this year's Heisman race will be incredibly close. With guys like Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook, Deshaun Watson and Christian McCaffrey competing for the award he should be proven right.

Fournette has probably been getting the most love for Heisman consideration and McCaffrey continues to go under the radar despite the fact he can do just about anything on the football field. Dalvin Cook is also an incredible running back, but takes the back seat to Fournette because Cook plays in the weaker ACC. However, it isn't a debate who the best quarterback in the country is and that's Deshaun Watson. He became the first D-I QB to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in a season and he may very well do it again this season.

Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield might be the next best QB though and Schlabach has him on his list of five finalists. Let's not forget that Clemson and Watson have beaten the Sooners twice in the last two seasons and Watson got the chance to outplay Mayfield last season in the CFP semifinals. He thinks Watson will perform well enough to win the Heisman in this close race and I wouldn't bet against it.
