The Big 12 championship game wll return to college football in 2017, and the league reportedly will award the five-year block of games (2017-21) to either Dallas, San Antonio or Kansas City, per CBS.
According to the report, those three cities hosted 11 of the 15 championship games from 1996-2010. A decision and announcement could reportedly come after the first over November.
The usual protocol for a conference to hold a championship game is 12 teams, but the Big 12 decided to remain at 10 instead of expanding.
Oklahoma got into the semifinals in 2015-16 for the College Football Playoffs, but the conference was left out in 2014-15 with two one-loss teams complaining about not making it to the CFP. With a conference championship that should no longer be an issue and should better the strength of schedule for the conference.
