On Saturday, Herbstreit was asked which team he sees as this year's sleeper. Last year, Herbstreit was talking up Oklahoma when few were, and now, it looks like he is picking another Big 12 team as this year's darkhorse: TCU.
A lot of people have been high on TCU, even after the Horned Frogs lost quarterback Trevone Boykin and wide receiver Josh Doctson. The reason for that is confidence in their defense, as TCU returns eight starter and they get back multiple players that suffered injuries last year.

On offense, even if they lose some of their punch from last season, there is some consolation: they averaged over 40 points per game in 2015. Even if they drop a little bit, an improved defense should be able to cover for that, and more.
TCU opens the season on Sept. 3 with a visit from the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
