Report: Baylor has narrowed down coaching search to two candidates

Baylor fired previous head coach Art Briles back in May.

According to former ESPN and current 247Sports reporter Travis Haney, Baylor may be down to two names in their coaching searching, and neither name is Jim Grobe or Les Miles.

Haney lists Houston coach Tom Herman and SMU coach Chad Morris as "the two names at or the near the top" of Baylor's list. Herman is at the top of nearly every school's list, while Morris is an interesting darkhorse candidate emerging thanks to some success this year at SMU. Morris was also Clemson's offensive coordinator before taking the SMU job last season.

Baylor also reportedly has interest in former LSU coach Les Miles, but it is unclear if he is still in the running for the position. It is possible that Herman and Morris have simply passed him at the current moment.

The Herman candidacy is interesting, as most believe that Herman will head to Texas if he does decide to leave Houston. However, Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades has a previous connection with Herman, having hired him for the Houston job back in 2014.

Rhoades took over the Baylor AD job back in July after the school cleared house following the sexual assault scandal. Head coach Art Briles was among those fired, and the school is now looking for a permanent replacement. It appears current interim coach Jim Grobe is not in the school's plans for the future.
