Report: Baylor hires former ACC mainstay as interim head coach

That was a pretty quick turnaround.

UPDATE: After hiring Jim Grobe, Baylor AD Ian McCaw has announced that he will resign soon. He's held the position since the 2003-04 athletic season and is responsible for some crucial hires within the football department.

Baylor247 is reporting that Baylor athletic director Ian McCaw will announce the hiring of an interim head coach for the 2016 season and this would come pretty quickly on the heels of Art Briles getting fired. The new coach is not exactly familiar with Big 12 territory, but does have plenty of coaching experience in a Power Five conference. Former Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe is expected to be clad in green and gold for the upcoming football season.

In 19 seasons as a head coach between two programs —- University of Ohio and Wake Forest —- Grobe compiled a 110-115-1 overall record and reached a total of nine bowl games. From 2006-2008, Grobe led Wake Forest to a 28-12 record including an Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in 2006.

Grobe is known mostly as a defensive specialist and his team only gave up 15.4 points per game when they won the ACC Championship. Grobe's experience at a private school like Wake Forest should also help him in his new role at Baylor, also a private institution.
