If you are trying to find the Big 12 in the phone book, you might as well look under "Texas".
It is still unknown if the Big 12 is going to expand or not, but at least one school is making an attempt to lobby Texas and the Big 12 for an expansion spot.
According to the Commercial Appeal, the University of Memphis sent a promotional package to University of Texas president Dr. Gregory Fenves in attempt to sway the president on the potential of adding Big 12 to the conference. Memphis reportedly sent the promo back in December, and it included "the passion and proud history of Tiger athletics including a historic run by our football program."
The NCAA ruled a few months ago that conferences with less than 12 members will be able to have conference title games in the future, meaning that expansion is no longer completely necessary for the Big 12. However, if the Big 12 truly wants to compete with the other Power 5 conferences, then expansion would be a smart move. It would make the title game process easier to formulate, and it could potentially add to the conference's footprint.
You know who would be a good school for the Big 12 to add? Memphis. They have a decent location, and they have relatively good football and basketball programs right now. This promo package probably didn't help the school too much, but it definitely isn't going to hurt them, and they should definitely be trying to get their way into a Power 5 conference.
The Big 12 will likely make a decision on expansion and a future football conference championship game later this year.
