There was a point where it didn't matter if Texas won or lost this game; it was all probably over for Charlie Strong.
Kansas was able to send the game into overtime against the Longhorns partially thanks to a controversial targeting call on their final drive. The late hit on the quarterback put Kansas into field goal range, and they were able to convert to tie the game at 21.
Once in overtime, Kansas was able to pick off Texas quarterback Shane Buechele to tilt the game in their favor. The Jayhawks then hit a field goal to get the 24-21 win and the upset.
While Texas had reportedly been hoping to retain Strong for another year, it looks like pressure from some of the school's boosters could force the head coach out of Austin. That pressure was already immense before this game, but after that kind of performance against a previously 1-9 Kansas team? Those aren't the expectations that Texas has out of their football program.
Strong is now 16-20 in his career as the Texas head coach, which is the worst mark in the history of Longhorns football.
