Texas to lose another former four-star recruit to transfer

Another loss for Texas?

Texas wide receiver and former four-star recruit DeAndre McNeal is set to transfer from the program. 247Sports first reported the news on Friday.

McNeal arrived at Texas last season as a member of the 2015 class after a high-profile recruiting process. The 6-foot-1, 230 pounder gained acclaim for his exception 4.5 speed in the 40, and he was considering Texas A&M, Alabama, and Ohio State before announcing his commitment to the Longhorns. In his one year in Austin, he played primarily on special teams, and did not record a catch as season.

Texas reportedly gave McNeal the release from his scholarship, but he won't be allowed to transfer to certain schools. Those schools are any Big 12 team, Notre Dame, California and UTEP, or in other words, any opponent on Texas's 2016 schedule.

The Big 12 restriction is obvious, but considering that McNeal won't be eligible to play at an FBS school in 2016, it's interesting that restricted from the 2016 schedule and not the 2017 one.
