Scates, a 6'3, 175-pound receiver from Dayton, Ohio, chose the Spartans over Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Pitt, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
Scates is the No. 25 receiver in the 2017 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.
