Alex Malzone, a former four-star recruit and Michigan Wolverines quarterback, has transferred to Miami (Ohio). Per 2018 rules, he made the announcement on social media.
"Excited to announce that I'll be playing at Miami Ohio University the next two years while pursuing a master's degree. Beyond pumped to join Coach Martin and this team. Go Redhawks," he wrote on Instagram.
While he was relatively touted coming out of high school, Malzone didn't record a statistic in 2017. In fact, he has zero collegiate stats, according to ESPN. He did, however, handle some of Michigan's special teams duties, as he was used as the placeholder for field goal kicks.
He was ranked the No. 14 pro-style quarterback in the 2015 class by 247Sports' Composite Rankings.
When he announced his decision to transfer back in November, Malzone used Instagram to let his intentions be known.
It has been an awesome 3 years playing for the University of Michigan that I will cherish forever. It was a dream of mine to play for the University of Michigan and it's been an honor to wear the winged helmet. I will be graduating in April and will become a graduate transfer with 2 years left to play. Thank you to the Michigan coaching staff that has helped me mature and develop over these years. I've had great experiences with this team and have made relationships that will last a lifetime. I'm excited to continue my journey playing this great game. Go Blue!
Obviously, Malzone is hoping a change in scenery results in some playing time.
