Auburn has never played a Big Ten team during the regular season, but that is about to change as the Tigers and their Big Ten opponent made an announcement on Monday. Penn State and Auburn will play a home-and-home series in 2021-22, the schools announced Monday.
The first game will be hosted by Penn State on September 18, 2021 while the second will go to Jordan-Hare Stadium on September 17, 2022. While the two schools haven't met in the regular season, they have played each other in bowl games. Penn State beat Auburn in the 1996 Outback Bowl, while the Tigers prevailed in the 2003 Capital One Bowl.
This home-and-home series is rare for the Big Ten and SEC with most of the series taking place at neutral sites. However, there are a few more like it on the way with Tennessee scheduled to play Ohio State in 2018-19 and Nebraska in 2026-27. Arkansas and Michigan are also going to exchange home games in 2018-19.
