Jim Harbaugh's Michigan Wolverines just fell to 8-5 on the year after a season-ending loss to South Carolina in the Outback Bowl, and it felt like a step backwards for the program.

The Gamecocks stormed back to knock off the Wolverines 26-19, which means Harbaugh's team didn't defeat a team with a winning record all season. The loss also spoiled the Big 10's undefeated bowl record as they finished 7-1 in bowl games.
The loss prompted FOX Sports analyst and NFL Hall of Famer Cris Carter to tweet that Harbaugh is the "most overrated coach in football."

Carter's point about the ineffectiveness of the offense is valid, and it's plagued the Wolverines all season. The addition of former Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson could help greatly next year, but it was a disappointing year on the offensive side of the ball in 2017.
It should be noted that Carter played college football at Ohio State, so that's probably part of the reason why he thinks Harbaugh is overrated.
But it seems many college football analysts and fans have turned on Harbaugh after the 8-5 season. He hasn't won a conference title in his coaching career, and he hasn't won a Big 10 division title since he took over in Ann Arbor in 2015.
Harbaugh is 28-11 in three seasons, but to be fair to him, his team did only return five starters heading into 2017. Next year will be a pivotal season for him and the future of the program. Harbaugh's proven he's among the best at every stop he's made during his coaching career, but he'll certainly have more doubters after the 8-5 campaign in 2017.
