On Thursday, four-star defensive tackle Kendrick Green (6-foot-4, 270 pounds, Peoria, Ill.) announced a commitment to Illinois over schools like Iowa and Minnesota.
While the 247Sports Crystal Ball had Green as 100-percent to Iowa, he now becomes one of Illinois' highest-rated commitments.
Illinois recruiting has been extremely hit-or-miss in recent years, so grabbing Green amidst competition from other Big Ten schools is a good get for head coach Lovie Smith. The Illini have to start winning some recruiting battles if they want to start being competitive again, and this is a good start.
Green has been a late-bloomer in recruiting, largely thanks to a full-time position change to defensive tackle. Green had also played offensive line in the past.
Illinois now has 15 pledges for the 2017 recruiting class.
