Four-star prospect George Karlaftis turns down offers from Michigan, Miami in surprising commitment

Aside from Purdue, Miami and Michigan, he had offers from Alabama, Louisville, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee.

After discussing how impressed he was with Purdue in August, four-star prospect George Karlaftis has committed to head coach Jeff Brohm and the Boilermakers.

"This was my second visit," Karlaftis said back in August. "I mainly just saw their new facilities, which, without a doubt are one of the best in the country. I had meetings with Coach Brohm and Coach Holt and talked to almost every coach there, and I think they are great and will do amazing things for Purdue for the years to come."

Karlaftis, an Indiana native, was also strongly considering Miami and Michigan as his top college choices, but likes the proximity of Purdue.

"It's next to home and it's where my family is at," he said.

Karlaftis currently ranks as the No. 16 strong-side defensive end and the No. 3 recruit from the state of Indiana. He recorded five tackles and blocked a punt during his first game and a defensive touchdown in Week 2.

Aside from Purdue, Miami and Michigan, Karlaftis had offers from Alabama, Louisville, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee.

Karlaftis, a two-sport athlete, won a state championship in the shot put last spring and recorded 113 tackles, including 14.5 for loss, 11 sacks and 29 quarterback hurries.
