Keyshawn Johnson has a direct tie to the Nebraska program, as his son was a member of the team before leaving in June amid a commitment to return to the Huskers in the future. As a result, he has unique insight into what is taking place in Lincoln under the embattled leadership of Mike Riley and, this week, Johnson weighed in on the scrutiny and buzz that Riley could be on the hot seat right now.

In short, Johnson responded to the notion by suggesting that firing Riley "would be a huge mistake" at this juncture in the proceedings.
Since arriving from Oregon State before the 2015 season, Riley has a 18-15 record that would please many programs nationally. However, Nebraska is most certainly not one of those programs and, given the relatively flat reception he received when hired to lead the program, the leash could be quite short for Riley.
On one hand, Johnson's comments make sense and many college football fans would be wise to exercise some level of restraint when calling for the jobs of coaches across the nation. On the other, Riley lost his athletic director earlier this year and there is not a ton to get excited about right now in Lincoln.
