Michigan takes lead over Notre Dame, UCLA for four-star LB Carlo Kemp

The Michigan Wolverines had been anxiously awaiting a visit from four-star 2016 linebacker Carlo Kemp, and over the weekend he participated in the team's "BBQ at the Big House" event. While the coaching staff was invested in a number of prospects, they managed to make a significant impact on Kemp, including the fact that the rising senior from Fairview High School in Boulder, Colo., gave Michigan the "edge" over the pack in his recruitment.

Anna Hickey of Scout brings word of Kemp's experience in Ann Arbor, straight from the prospect's mouth:

"It was just awesome. I came in with very high expectations. When we finally got inside The Big House, it was different than anything I had ever experienced. All of my expectations were blown away. I saw the stadium when it was empty, and I can't even imagine what's it's like when it's full. That was my favorite part."

In addition to specifically that the "visit gave Michigan an edge", Kemp hit it off with Jim Harbaugh, saying this:

"He's so awesome. He's a special person. He's a competitor. He's there to win a national championship. He displays a ton of energy about it, and you know he means it."

Kemp, who stands 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, spoke highly of the possibility of playing BUCK linebacker at Michigan, and he would certainly profile as an ideal candidate under defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin. It will be interesting to see when and if Kemp sets an official visit to Michigan, but in what appears to be a three-team race with Notre Dame and UCLA, the Wolverines have the inside track.
