Jaylen Kelly-Powell, as one of the top prospects from the state of Michigan, had plenty of suitors across the country, including the likes of Ohio State and Alabama. However, on Tuesday, the talented 2017 safety elected to announce his pledge to the program he had been linked to for quite some time in the University of Michigan.
Kelly-Powell provided the recruiting world with a long-form note (seen above in Tweet form) and a commitment video, and the Cass Tech (Detroit) product is a huge get for Jim Harbaugh and his staff. In addition to Kelly-Powell's arrival on his own, the commitment could have implications for a pair of his high school teammates in five-star wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones and fellow four-star defensive back Ambry Thomas, both of whom are considering Michigan.
On Tuesday, the Wolverines add a top-five player from their home state and a consensus top-300 recruit nationally, but more than that, Michigan locks down a local product against the likes of Nick Saban and Urban Meyer on the recruiting trail. In the grand scheme, the addition of Jaylen Kelly-Powell means more than the "typical" four-star recruit, and it is a safe bet to assume that Jim Harbaugh already knew that.
