Three years later, he found himself serving as Urban Meyer's defensive coordinator at Ohio State.
And while the Buckeyes continuously recruit at an elite level, there is still a large gap in development from collegiate football to the NFL.
However, in Schiano's eyes, the exception is the current Ohio State defensive line.
In an interview with the Big Ten Network, Schiano did not hesitate in labeling the 2017 Buckeyes' defensive line as a more talented group than the men Tampa Bay lined up in the trenches in 2012 and 2013.

There is a significant level of talent with this group including redshirt seniors Michael Hill and Tyquan Lewis, along with redshirt junior Sam Hubbard, redshirt sophomore Dre'Mont Jones, and sophomore Nick Bosa — younger brother of Los Angeles Chargers star and former Buckeye Joey Bosa.
It's a group expected to contribute heavily toward a potential return to the College Football Playoff, but comparing college players to an NFL defensive line is a bit questionable.
After all, as Schiano mentioned in the interview, he coached Gerald McCoy, who is still one of the league's most disruptive defensive linemen.
When you tack on the fact McCoy played alongside Michael Bennett and Adrian Clayborn, too, it speaks to the confidence Schiano has in his guys in Columbus.
