Nation's No. 2 safety Josh Proctor spurns Oklahoma with shocking commitment

Proctor was considered a guarantee for Oklahoma.

Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes are having a nice weekend. First, the program picked up a somewhat surprising commitment from talented offensive lineman Max Wray. Then, in short order, the Buckeyes pulled off a shocker in convincing the nation's No. 2 safety prospect, Josh Proctor, to commit to spend his college career in Columbus.

Proctor, who hails from Owasso (Okla.), was seen as a heavy lean toward the Oklahoma Sooners. In fact, all ten (!) "Crystal Ball" predictions via 247Sports projected the 6'2, 190-pound defensive back to choose Bob Stoops and company. However, Meyer and his staff should never be ruled out on the recruiting trail and this is an impactful addition for the Buckeyes.

247Sports ranks Proctor as the No. 26 overall prospect in this class and he adds to the embarrassment of riches when it comes to talent in Columbus. While Ohio State continues to send prospects to the NFL Draft early, that hasn't stopped the Buckeyes from enjoying success on an annual basis and recruiting like this is the biggest reason. Josh Proctor was not "supposed" to choose Ohio State but that is the power of Urban Meyer, Greg Schiano and one of the best programs in the college football world.
