Patrick Surtain Jr. is the top-ranked cornerback in the recruiting class of 2018. With that, it would make sense that one of the nation's best recruiting programs would be in pursuit of his services.
Over the weekend, that became a reality, as Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes officially extended an offer.
Surtain Jr. is a five-star recruit that falls within the top 20 nationally according to every major recruiting service, and he has a familiar name with the fact that his father was an NFL player for both the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. The 6-foot-2, 181-pound cornerback from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. released a top-five list in mid-July, but the arrival of Ohio State's offer could certainly shake things up if the past is any indication.
At this juncture, it is unknown whether Urban Meyer and his staff will be able to make up the ground needed to catch schools like Florida State, Florida and LSU when it comes to Surtain Jr. and his recruitment. However, the Buckeyes have been fantastic in closing on prospects since Meyer arrived, and there is a reason that Ohio State has been able to sit comfortably atop the Big Ten for the duration of the head coach's stay in Columbus.
Patrick Surtain Jr. may stay closer to home in committing to a school from the South, but with Ohio State in the mix, that isn't a certainty by any stretch.
