Tennessee tabs its new defensive coordinator

It's official!

Tennessee has officially found its new defensive coordinator in Bob Shoop. He was previously at Penn State where he was also the defensive coordinator since 2014. Before that he was at Vanderbilt from 2011 until 2013 so he has experience in the SEC as well. Coach Butch Jones made the announcement on Saturday and had a lot of nice things to say about his new coordinator.

"We are very excited about the addition of Bob Shoop to our coaching staff. Bob has established himself as one of the premier coordinators in all of college football and is very well-respected as a recruiter, football coach and person. He brings a wealth of experience at the highest level and possesses all the qualities we were looking for as we went through this process. He has directed units that have finished in the Top 25 nationally in each of the last five years and he will do a great job of developing our players on the defensive side of the ball."

Shoop has a total of 27 years of coaching experience and will be replacing John Jancek who "mutually parted ways" with the school earlier this month. Penn State ranked 15th in the country in total defense in 2015, allowing only 324.3 yards per game and 10th against the pass by allowing only 174.5 yards per game through the air. The Nittany Lions allowed 20 or fewer points in five games.

And it looks like he will have a pretty nice salary to boot.
