There is a general consensus building that Alabama's Nick Saban and Ohio State's Urban Meyer sit atop the heap when discussing the best college football coaches in the country. After that, however, disagreements begin to pop up and the good folks at CBS Sports did their best to iron things out in the form of a ranking of the top 25 coaches nationally.

Saban (No. 1) and Meyer (No. 2) were not controversial inclusions but there was a bit of a stunner in the top ten, where the CBS panel placed Michigan's Jim Harbaugh at No. 5 overall. Tom Fornelli had this to say:
I'm just going to be honest here. I think Harbaugh is a great coach. I would be thrilled if Harbaugh was coaching my favorite team. I still think he's ranked too high. While I feel like it's only a matter of time until it happens, he's yet to win a conference title on the FBS level. In fact, he hasn't even won a division title yet. He may end up being a top five coach sooner rather than later, but I just don't think he has the overall resume to be considered one now. My fellow voters disagree, obviously.
It is important to note that, yes, Harbaugh does not have a conference title on his resume. Still, it would be (very) short-sighted to dwell on that over the fact that he has transformed the Wolverines seemingly overnight and Harbaugh's recruiting prowess is undeniable as well.
At some point, success in the form of titles will have to follow for Michigan and Harbaugh to justify this ranking. For now, though, a bit of projection isn't too crazy when landing on this lofty perch. As for the other 22 spots, let the debate continue.
